You may audition for this show at our regular auditions held monthly at Busch Gardens Tampa, Florida or at any of our out-of-town auditions.

This show will run for several years and several performers are cast in each role. We are always looking for performers who could be a part of this show in the future.

Set in Africa, Katonga combines musical theatre with storytelling, puppetry, acrobatics and African dance traditions. This show will be performed in the fully equipped 1150-seat Broadway-style theater.

Casting Breakdown

Principles:

“KARUME” (male) – Singer/Actor, baritone ( James Earl Jones type), may be young performer able to play mature character.

“AYO” (male) – Comic Actor/singer, tenor (young Eddie Murphy type), movement/athletic skills preferred.

“LYONGO” (male) – Singer/Actor, bass/baritone (young Geoffrey Holder type), animated personality preferred.

“CITIWALA” (female) – Actress, singing ability a plus, but not required (young Ertha Kitt type), petite stature, athletic or contortion skills preferred.

“SHADE” (female) – Singer/Actress, belt soprano (Patti LaBelle type), with Broadway vocal and classical acting styles a plus.

***Note: Linguistic abilities with African accents/ dialects a plus for all principles.

Chorus:

Male Dancers – Diverse ethnicity, strong modern and jazz skills, experience in African styles a plus.

Female Dancers – Diverse ethnicity, strong modern and jazz skills, experience in African styles a plus.

Male Dancers – Training and knowledge in South/West African dance styles sought, experience in modern and jazz also required.

Female Dancers –Training and knowledge in South/West African dance styles sought, experience in modern and jazz also required

Male Acrobats – Strong gymnastic/acrobatic skills required, experience in other styles of movement/dance and theatrical productions preferred.

A six-month contract is requested and has the opportunity of being extended for up to 3 years. Employment is established on a show/hourly basis with weekly salaries average $450 to $550. A health benefits package is available also. Low cost of living and an active gulfshore lifestyle provides Tampa, Florida with many extra benefits.
